米高梅公司早年以出品大型歌舞片知名，旗下歌舞巨星如：弗雷德．阿斯泰尔、宾．克罗斯拜、杰克．黑利等到均为一时之选。本片由导演小杰克．海利从米高梅出品的一百部歌舞片中挑选出视听效果最好的和最令人难忘的一些精彩片段剪接而成，并由伊莉沙白．泰勒等多位巨星担任串场司仪介绍每个不同的片段，堪称是歌舞电影艺术的精华浓缩版，娱乐效果百分之百，接着放映的《星光闪闪2》则由杰克．黑利担任导演，并与另一舞王弗雷德．阿斯泰尔共同担任主持人，在精彩的歌舞片段之外，尚加入了米高梅出品的剧情片和喜剧片精华，因此可以看到银幕最佳情侣斯潘塞．特蕾西和凯瑟琳．赫本，及马克斯兄弟的逗趣演出。
